HERS Rater

A HERS rater is a professional who evaluates the energy efficiency of a home. These home energy raters use a variety of equipment and techniques to find air leaks, insulation levels, and other factors that can affect a home’s energy efficiency. By identifying and fixing these issues, energy raters can help homeowners save money on their energy bills.

Energy Efficiency

An energy efficiency audit is a process that assesses a home’s current energy performance and identifies areas of improvement. During the process, a rater will inspect the home for air leaks, insulation levels, ventilation systems and other factors that affect energy efficiency. They will also measure temperature differences throughout the house to pinpoint hot or cold spots caused by air leakage. After all of these tests are complete, they will provide recommendations on how to improve the overall energy efficiency of your home.

Home Energy Rating

The Home Energy Rating System (HERS) is a nationally recognized scoring system that rates the energy efficiency of a home on a scale from 1 to 100. The higher the score, the more efficient the home. To earn a high score, homes should have improved insulation, good ventilation systems and few air leaks. By working with a HERS rater, you can identify areas for improvement and take steps to make your home more energy-efficient and lower your monthly bills.

HERS Rater Quality Assurance

When it comes to selecting a HERS rater, it is important to ensure they have the necessary qualifications and experience. Each rater should be licensed in accordance with local regulations, and many states also require certifications from national organizations such as RESNET or BPI. Additionally, check for references and customer reviews to make sure you are getting quality service.

This is a really great company. They were able to come out and do an evaluation of our home. Clay did a blower door test and found all the places where air was leaking. By doing the relatively minor repairs and weatherization Lone Star recommended our whole house feels cooler without having to replace our HVAC ! I was sure we were going to have to replace it because it wasn't keeping up. Turns out it can keep up now! Not only that, but on the new construction project we are considering Clay was able to look at the plans and specs and do an audit to make sure that our investments for the future would not only meet the codes but would also would help us save money on the bills long term. This is a company that puts money back in your pocket over time and I love that. Working with them was a great decision. We saved money, protected our investment in our home through knowledgeable repairs, were able to make informed decisions about our future energy use, and reduce our impact on the planet. It was easy to schedule. Clay was dependable about scheduling and budget, he was friendly and at no point was it uncomfortable to have them in the house. The business is family owed and they were just lovely people. THREE CHEERS FOR LONE STAR!
